Addressing the democratic convention last night, former president Bill Clinton declared that democratic presidential nominee, 'Barack Obama is ready to lead America and to restore American leadership in the world.' Ending weeks of speculation about a rift between the former president and the Illinois senator, Clinton not only urged his wife’s supporters to get behind Obama, but also lavishly praised and enthusiastically endorsed Obama in what was one of the most rousing speeches given at the Democratic National Convention thus far. - [full article]

Big Brother w/ Marcellas: Stupid Is As Stupid Does
'Stupid is as stupid does.' Forrest Gump uttered one of the most famous lines in recent movie history. This week on Big Brother a lot of stupid things have been done and a whole lot more have been said. Now I am not one to call the House Guests stupid. I know what it's like to be there... to make a mistake. But man.... - [full article]
Reintroducing Devin Lima
The first time I saw Devin Lima perform, he was sone-third of the late '90s boyband LFO. The pop sensations were performing alongside names like Whitney Houston and Deborah Cox at a soiree for Arista , the label behind their smash hit single 'Summer Girls'. Now more than seven years later, Lima chats with GayWired.com about his transition from boyband personality to edgy, pop wunderkind. - [full article]

A fruitful life in front of the camera took an unexpected turn when Jake Deckard, one of many porn stars who set their sites on one day directing, did just that... and became pretty damn good on it, if we do say so ourselves. Goodbye Del Martin… And Now the Fight Begins
Del Martin spent 55 years partnered with the love of her life, Phyllis Lyon, and yesterday morning, Del slipped away. Theirs was the sort of bond that comes once in a lifetime—a life filled with one first after another. To think—Phyllis and Del were together 55 years and married barely two months. And now, the religious right is attempting to take that bond away... again. - [full article]
The Joe Biden Challenge
Tonight, Joe Biden takes the stage at the DNC for the most important speech of his political career. Biden will have the challenge of successfully proving that his presence on the Democratic ticket will help win the White House. It’s a tall order that is sure to inspire comparisons to successful VP candidates past like Lyndon Baines Johnson and more ill-fated contenders like the late Lloyd Bentsen. - [full article]
Proudly Out: The Importance of Friends
The Capital District’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community lost a good friend two weeks ago. Cecelia Garfinkel succumbed to her battle with cancer. Her untimely death got me thinking about the importance of allies in these vexing political times. It is more important than ever for the LGBT community to expand our relationship with straight folks who support our rights. - [full article]

Gay rights opponents get smacked down in Oregon; Prop 8 fuels a wild fundraising race in California; John McCain proves to be more pro-choice than pro-gay; the Democrats ready for a starry convention in Denver; the Republicans get revved up for their greenest convention ever in St. Paul; and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi changes her tune about offshore drilling, but she wants a few things in return. - [full article]

Travel Odds and Ends: Avril Lavigne, ‘Ugly’ Women
An Australian mining town extends an invitation to less attractive women; Malaysia tries to shut Avril LaVigne down for being ‘too sexy’; Manholes go missing in Texas; A Swedish woman tries to sell her apartment with her stepdad still in it; and Italian towns go crazy with a new list of bans against everything from lying in the park to giving a lover a kiss goodbye in a car! - [full article]

Nobody Wants to Read Your Resume
Painful fact: the hiring official at Acme Wingnuts—or any company, for that matter—would rather not read your resume. Don't take it personally. He'd rather not read anybody's resume. Labored, unexciting text, pat phraseology, fluff and puff exaggerations. It's torture. Still, he's going to read the sorrowful lot of them because it remains the best (only?) way to get warm bodies in the interview chair. - [full article]
Online Reputation Management - How to Bury Digital Dirt
People are always looking you up online whether it's before they meet with you, offer you a job, or even date you, so what do you do if some 'bad stuff' or at least undesirable or inaccurate things about you appear high in search results? Your online reputation is important, so how can you handle this so-called 'digital dirt'? - [full article]
Special Rights No More
When my partner and I decided to move from the Southeast to a large, vibrant, liberal city in the upper Northwest, we knew that it would be different. We expected employer-based partner benefits, we knew we could register as Domestic Partners, and we knew that we would find gay and lesbian friends. I also hoped that when I got a job, being gay just wouldn’t be an issue. - [full article]
Former Google Employee Anna Patterson Launches Competing ‘Cool’ Search
A former Google employee has launched a new search engine to compete against the massive Internet presence of her former employer. Anna Patterson and her husband, Tom Costello, developed the Cuil search engine (pronounced ‘cool’) with the intention of indexing more websites than Google and providing more accurate results for search users. A preliminary search for gay resources on Cuil.com yields pleasingly accurate information, but extremely limited functionality. - [full article]

California Bans the Use of Trans Fats

With a former Hollywood action star and Mr. Universe as its governor, it makes sense the California has become the first state to ban trans fats from its restaurants. California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law a bill that bans restaurants in the state from using virtually all trans fats, which are found in most margarines and oils.

A Girl, Her Bike and a Bucket of Butt Balm
Last month I embarked on AIDS LifeCycle 7, a life-changing ride that has taken a few weeks and a massage or two to fully comprehend. I'm just beginning to understand that I—and 2,500 other nuts—pedaled 545-miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise money, through the LA Gay and Lesbian Center and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, for people living with AIDS. - [full article]
Gay Men Complacent When it Comes to HIV
Has the LGBT community become complacent when it comes to HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention? In recent years, an unnerving trend has shown its face in the gay community, and a new study from the Center for Disease Control is validating that claim. A study released last week has shown increases in new diagnoses of HIV in the category of “men who have sex with men,” or MSM. - [full article]

Victim to Scapegoat: The Tragedy of Lawrence King
For the first time in thirteen years as a parent, I am actually scared. What is the world coming to when a hate crime victim such as Lawrence King becomes the object of blame for ending up getting shot in the head? My oldest son is not a tough guy. He’s sweet. What do I say to him now? He should feel free to express himself? When society may one day blame him for being the victim of someone else's hate? - [full article]
Obtaining a Same-Sex Wedding License in California

Depending on your circumstances and preferences, a California wedding may be the best option for you and your partner. If so, here are a few things you'll need to know about same-sex marriages in this state. - [full article]
It's Never Too Late to Find 'The One!'
On the first anniversary of the day my father died, Feb. 1, 2005, to be precise, my sadistic editor at the old-school Connecticut daily where I bore the illustrious title of 'Town Reporter,' sent me kicking and screaming on an assignment. When the public relations department of a local nursing home called with a tidbit about an epic love story, my editor sent me off with my reporter’s notebook and my pen to paint a verbal portrait of the two lovebirds. And I got a lesson in love.

Keeping Children First in a Mixed Orientation Marriage
For many people, the most painful aspect of living in a mixed orientation marriage is dealing with their children. Both parties may experience guilt, anxiety and confusion when deciding what to tell their children. In the case of divorce, there is the added burden of custody and visitation issues. To make matters worse, if the relationship becomes embittered, children are many times used as a tool for manipulation by one or both parties. - [full article]
